U.S. Company Challenges Legality Of French Ban on Hydraulic Fracturing

Dallas-based Schuepbach Energy LLC has filed suit in France's highest constitutional chamber challenging the legality of a 2011 law that barred the use of hydraulic fracturing to extract or explore for shale gas in France, the company's Paris-based attorney told Bloomberg BNA. Schuepbach has filed an expedited case in the Constitutional Council (Case No. 2013-346 QPC) seeking a priority preliminary ruling, or QPC, on the legality of the 2011 law, which led to cancellation of the company's three permits to explore for shale gas in the Ar-deche and Larzac regions, company attorney Marc For-nacciari said.
