Agri-business corporation Syngenta Aug. 27 said it has filed a complaint at the European Union Court of Justice seeking annulment of a European Commission decision that places a temporary moratorium on the use of the pesticide thiame-thoxam because of an alleged threat to bee health (Syngenta Crop Protection v. Commission, European Union Court of Justice, No. T-451/13, 8/14/13). The Basel, Switzerland-headquartered company said in a statement that the Commission, the European Union's executive arm, had decided to restrict thiame-thoxam on the basis of "a flawed process, an inaccurate and incomplete assessment by the European Food Safety Authority, and without the full support of EU member states."
