China's growing demand for energy, heavy reliance on coal, and geographic mismatch of water and energy assets foreshadow a future water and energy crisis, according to speakers at a discussion forum at Beijing University Aug. 7. "If China's energy demand increases, demand for water will increase too," said Yang Fuqiang, a senior adviser on energy, environment, and climate change at the Natural Resources Defense Council in Beijing, one of several speakers at the gathering.
