China's State Council has announced plans to bolster the country's floundering solar industry and spur the use of energy-efficient and environmental products. The solar industry plan was announced July 15 after the State Council, China's top decisionmaking body, held a high-level meeting in mid-June about what support policies it should implement. The Chinese solar industry has been hit by trade frictions with the European Union and the United States, as well as drops in demand from those markets and the bottoming out of polysilicon prices globally (36 INER 1003, 7/17/13).
