U.S. Customs Rule Will Ban Imports Failing To Comply With Energy Conservation Laws

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has amended a rule that requires the agency to refuse admission of consumer products and industrial equipment that do not comply with U.S. energy conservation and labeling standards, according to a notice published July 5 (78 Fed. Reg. 40,388). The final rule, which takes effect Aug. 5, specifically will allow CBP to refuse admission of imported products or equipment covered by the Energy Policy and Conservation Act of 1975 if the agency receives a written determination of noncompliance from the Energy Department or the Federal Trade Commission.
