China's Banking Commission Developing New Guidelines for Extending 'Green Credit'

The China Banking Regulatory Commission is expected in April to complete a statistical analysis of so-called green credit practices that will be used to guide banks in deciding whether to lend to companies based on their environmental performance, according to a March 22 report from People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China. China's fledgling "green credit" policies aim to give companies with better environmental practices easier access to credit and to limit loans to companies with poor environmental records, although these policies are not mandatory.
