Australian Regulator Releases Emissions Data for More Than 400 Corporate Groups

Australia's Clean Energy Regulator on Feb. 28 released data provided by more than 400 corporate groups on their annual greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme requires large emitters to provide the data, and the latest results provide information on their emissions and energy use in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012. Australia's carbon price scheme took effect on July 1, 2012, and from 2012-13 onwards, NGER data supplied by companies will be used by the regulator to determine any payment obligations that businesses might have under the scheme.
