The Australian government Feb. 6 announced the approval of four more protocols for the creation of carbon offsets that can be used to meet obligations under the country's carbon price scheme. The latest approvals mean there are now 10 protocols for creating offset credits under the Carbon Farming Initiative (GFI). Most organizations covered by the carbon price scheme can use CFI credits to meet up to 5 percent of their obligations during the scheme's fixed-price phase. The restriction on the proportion of CFI credits they can use will end in mid-2015, when the scheme shifts to a floating price phase.
