ECHA Launches Online Pesticide Registration Tool

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is releasing a new online tool for companies to submit registration applications for their pesticidal and antimicrobial products, according to an Oct. 28 announcement on its website. The tool, called the Summary Product Characteristics Editor, will be mandatory beginning in December for any company applying for a new registration. It will not be mandatory for pending applications or for registration renewals. Moving to an online application tool will reduce delays in issuing registrations, Jan Weber, an ECHA product manager, said at a Sept. 24 meeting of biochemical company representatives in Helsinki. "The moment the civil servant pushes the autho- rization button, [we] will finalize the [application] like a rubber stamp," he said. "So [it's] done and it's a legal document."
