Trash or Treasure? Spike in Recycling Profits Easing EU Waste Management Revisions

The European Union's executive arm could find itself in an unusual position when it publishes a package of proposals, scheduled for the end of May, to revise the 28-country bloc's legislative framework on waste. The European Commission's proposals would revise three key EU waste laws: the Waste Framework Directive (WFD, 2008/98/EC), the Landfill Directive (99/31/ EC) and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (94/62/EC). The proposals also would seek greater harmonization of EU waste management practices through measures such as revised definitions and statistical methods.
