U.S. Trade Office Notifies Congress of Intent To Launch WTO Environmental Goods Talks

The Obama administration March 21 notified Congress of its intent to launch negotiations on a new trade agreement in the World Trade Organization aimed at eliminating tariffs on a range of environmental goods, according to an announcement from the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative. In his notification letter, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said the negotiations will build on U.S. leadership in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on environmental goods and maintain momentum in the WTO for new approaches to trade liberalization that led to success at the Ninth WTO Ministerial Conference in December 2013.
