German Agency, Consumer Group Issue Call For Greener Food Production, Consumption

The excessive use of nitrogen fertilizers and the number of animals per acre of grazing land in Germany should be reduced to make food production and consumption more environmentally friendly, the country's Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the Federation of German Consumer Associations (VZBV) said in recommendations published Jan. 15. The recommendations cover organic farming, meat production and consumption, food waste and use of nitrogen fertilizers in agriculture.
