First EU-Wide Biocide Authorization Bids Submitted to European Chemicals Agency

The European Chemicals Agency said July 22 that it has received the first applications for European Union-wide authorizations for biocidal products for two groups of veterinary disinfectants containing iodine. The applications take advantage of an optional procedure introduced by the 2012 EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR, 528/2012/EU). Instead of seeking authorization for biocidal products from the national authorities in each EU member state, the procedure allows for a single application to be made to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), with any subsequent authorization recognized across the bloc.
