EU Chemicals Agency Calls for Input on Possible Concerns of DecaBDE Restriction

The European Chemicals Agency's Socio-Economic Analysis Committee June 17 called for comments on a draft opinion in which it backs a wide-ranging restriction under the European Union's REACH law on the brominated flame retardant decabromodiphenyl ether (DecaBDE). ECHA proposed the DecaBDE restriction in August 2014 in collaboration with the Norwegian Environment Agency, on the grounds that the substance is classified persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic and very persistent and very bioaccumulative (37 INER 1357, 10/8/14).
