Germany Takes Legal Action Against EU State Aid Decision on Renewable Energy

Germany is taking legal action against a European Commission decision that found the country's 2012 green energy law "involves state aid." According to a Feb. 17 statement from the federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the German government does not think the Renewable Energy Sources Act 2012 (EEG 2012) constitutes state aid, although the European Commission came to this conclusion late last year after an in-depth, nearly yearlong investigation (37 INER 1616, 12/3/14).
