European Chemicals Agency Designates Six Chemicals Substances of 'Very High Concern'

The European Chemicals Agency said Dec. 17, 2014, that has added six chemicals judged to have carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic properties to the European Union list of substances of very high concern under the REACH regulation. The substances, which bring the total number on the substances of very high concern (SVHC) list to 161, are two cadmium compounds (cadmium fluoride and cadmium, sulfate), two ultraviolet absorbers (2-(2H-benzotriazol-2-yl)-4, 6-ditertpentylphenol (UV-328) and 2-benzotriazol-2-yl-4,6-di-tert-butylphenol (UV-320)), and 2-ethylhexyl 10-ethyl-4,4-dioctyl-7-oxo-8-oxa-3,5-dithia-4-stannatetradecanoate (DOTE). The sixth chemical listed was a reaction chemical that goes by the name reaction mass of 2-ethylhexyl 10-ethyl-4,4-dioctyl-7-oxo-8-oxa-3,5-dithia-4-stannatetradecanoate and 2-ethylhexyl 10-ethyl-4-[[2-[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy] -2-oxoethyl]thio] -4-octyl-7-oxo-8-oxa-3,5-dithia-4-stannatetradecanoate (reaction mass of DOTE and MOTE).
