摘要

The Court of Quebec has levied a record C$7.5 million ($6.5 million) fine against Bloom Lake General Partner Ltd. after it pleaded guilty to 45 incidents involving spills from a tailings pond at its iron-ore mine in northeastern Quebec, Environment Canada said Dec. 19, 2014. The fine is the largest penalty ever imposed for environmental infractions in Canada, and C$6.83 million ($5.87 million) of the penalty will be directed to the Environmental Damages Fund, which ensures that companies that cause environmental damage or harm to wildlife take responsibility for their actions, according to the department. The fine will be the largest contribution to the fund to date, Environment Canada said.
