Richer developed countries appear to be on track to provide $100 billion a year beginning in 2020 to help developing nations adapt to climate change impacts and cut carbon emissions, according to a report released Oct. 17. Developing nations have at times been skeptical about whether wealthy nations would meet the pledge, unveiled at the 2009 Copenhagen climate meeting and formalized at the 2015 Paris talks that ended with the first truly global climate deal. The $100 billion-a-year offer, which combines money that is to come from public as well as private funding, was made in part to get developing nations to the negotiating table on the climate accord.
