Italy Reports 'Eco-Mafia' Crimes Declining Nationwide, But Economy Still Taking Hit

Italy is starting to win the battle against the so-called eco-mafia, figures released July 5 by the environmental lobby group Legambiente showed. In the most comprehensive report yet on the impacts on Italy's environmental well-being as a result of organized crime families, Legambiente's 192-page eco-mafia report estimated that the sector was worth 19.1 billion euro ($21.2 billion) in 2015, its lowest level since 2010 and down from 22.1 billion euro ($24.6 billion) in 2014.
