摘要

Almost three weeks ahead of the United Nations Environment Assembly summit to be held in Nairobi, Kenya has enacted a new law that will facilitate establishing a national climate change council, a platform for reducing greenhouse gases. The Climate Change Bill was signed into law by President Uhuru Kenyatta May 6 as part of Kenya's commitment to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. The new law replaced the earlier proposed Climate Change Authority Bill 2012 that Parliament rejected in 2013, saying it lacked the necessary safeguards to achieve a low-carbon environment.
