French Senate Resumes Work on Law To Create National Biodiversity Agency

France's Parliament has resumed work on a much-delayed law that would create an agency for biodiversity. The Draft Law for the Reconquest of Biodiversity, Nature and Landscapes, which President Francois Hol-lande initially promised for 2013, aims to update France's 40-year-old law on protecting nature and a 23-year-old law on overseeing landscapes. It also would provide France one of the most advanced biodiversity laws in the world, Segolene Royal, minister of ecology, sustainable development and energy, told the Council of Ministers Jan. 20.
