China Approves New Genetically Modified Soybean, Corn Variety for Import

China approved new strains of genetically modified corn and soybeans for imports and extended approval for 14 varieties of crops including cotton and canola. Herbicide-tolerant soybeans developed by Monsanto Co. and a strain of corn by Dow Chemical Co.'s Dow AgroSciences LLC have been approved for import, China's agriculture ministry said in a statement June 14. The two varieties will be permitted for import until June 2020.
