Chile is tightening the rules for companies bidding for electricity supply contracts as previous winners struggle to obtain the financing they need to push ahead with projects. The government doubled the guarantees required from companies in case they fail to deliver on their contracts and asked for a risk rating to show up any flaws in their proposals, Energy Minister Andres Rebolledo and executive director of the National Energy Commission, Andres Romero, told reporters Jan. 24. The government will auction contracts for 4,200 gigawatt-hours a year on Oct. 11, with supply starting in 2023.
