Brazil's top appeals court has upheld a 10.8-million-reais ($3.4 million) fine against the state oil company for a spill that washed onto beaches of two popular resort towns 15 years ago. Brazil's Superior Justice Tribunal (STJ) upheld the fine, which three parties had levied against Petrobras for the May 2002 spill in southeastern Rio de Janeiro state, the STJ announced Jan. 20.
