France Backs Expanding Solar Panel-Paved Road Experiment

The French government wants to expand a project to cover roads with solar cells, after funding a 1-kilometer (0.6 mile) long road in northwest France designed by French construction company Bouygues SA. The road inaugurated Dec. 22 in Normandy is a testing site before mass commercialization. The state is starting a four-year plan to deploy the technology, including experiments with a national road and a parking lot in western France and the harbor of Marseille,Southern France, the French environment ministry said in a statement.
