NEW GENERATION CAPACITY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Demand for electricity in South Africa currently outstrips supply and electricity shortages hamper economic growth. The Department of Energy is therefore urgently seeking alternatives to the country's coal-based electricity supply and in May 2011 published Electricity Regulations on New Generation Capacity in terms of the Electricity Regulation Act 2006 ("the Regulations"), as well as the Integrated Resource Plan 2010-2030 ("IRP 2010").
