Environmental Protection in the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria: the Roles of Governmental Agencies

This article has highlighted the roles of governmental agencies in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. It is clear that both regulatory agencies in environmental protection in Nigeria are hampered by both institutionally-and politically-induced ills. Until the laws establishing the agencies are amended or repealed to reflect the prevailing people-centred sentiments of the indigenes of the Niger-Delta, the agencies will continue to be barking without the requisite bite to enforce fines or authority on oil MNCs in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria.
