ELECTRICITY

The Portuguese National Electricity System's (SEN) legal framework was set forth by Decree Law 29/2006 of February 15, 2006, which established the general rules on the organisation and running of the SEN and the production, transport, distribution and marketing of electricity. The Memorandum of Understanding between Portugal and the European Union, the International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank determined, among other emergency measures, the need to conclude the liberalisation process of the electricity sector-by fully implementing Directive 2009/72, part of the Third Energy Package-and to enact measures to promote the sustainability of the SEN. In the light of this, the Portuguese Government has put into force Decree Law 215-A/2012, dated October 8, 2012, which introduces the following key amendments to the SEN's legal structure.
