Advanced Technologies For Global Competition

The second Aachen-Dresden International Textile Conference, held in December in Aachen, attracted over 600 participants. The main theme was innovations in polymer technologies for advanced textiles and functional materials, from nano to macro. The following are summaries from selected presentations. New developments are targeted not only at optimising desired textile properties, but also at achieving higher profitability and productivity by increasing production speed and reducing energy requirements, waste and emissions. Gerd Brandner, of Huntsman Textile Effects (Germany) highlighted this strategy through the example of low-energy UV cross-linking systems.
