An eu research project has developed technology to make sanitary fabric aseptic using zinc nanoparticles, enzymes and ultrasound. The SONO Project's sonochemical process has been pioneered at Spain's Polytechnical University of Catalunia. "Like silver, zinc has a strong antiseptic effect. While the fabric is immersed in...water, ultrasounds cause bubbles containing zinc oxide nanoparticles to explode and the particles...embedded in the textile," said a European Commission note.
