The textile dying industry and its suppliers will have to check compliance with a new European Union (EU) regulation on the marketing and use of explosives precursors, approved by the European Parliament in April. Its rules have been designed to increase licensing and controls so that terror groups cannot source chemicals they can use to launch violent attacks. Examples of dye chemicals that can help make explosives include picric acid (2,4,6-trinitrophenol), which has been used as a yellow dye. Dyestuff chemical hydrogen peroxide has also been used to make bombs.
