Polymer modification of bitumen binders is another way in which the hard wearing qualities of asphalt can be improved. Vestoplast from Huels AG of Germany is one such product - a thermoplastic polymer, comprising a variety of predominantly amorphous poly-α-olefins, produced in a continuous low-pressure polymerisation process from ethene, propene and butene, with Ziegler catalysts.
