Down-the-hole hammering

Two Asian contractors, Singapore-based Sum Cheon Piling and Malaysian contractor UCP Geotechnics, have taken delivery of the world's largest down-the-hole hammers. These units from Swedish manufacturer Sandvik Rock Tools are also making their debuts in South East Asia. Sun Cheong Piling purpose-ordered the top of the range Hammerdrill XL-24 hammer to drill piles up to 1.1m diameter into hard granite on the Hume Park project in Singapore.
