Faster communications, fewer arguments and better cost control are helping Yorkshire Water maintain a firm grip on the schedule for refurbishment and upgrade of its Upper Brighouse and Huddersfield Sewage Works. And at the heart of these improvements lies Primavera Expedition and Project Planner software, supplied by ForgeTrack, which is successfully monitoring and regulating the myriad activities involved. Representing a $80mil. investment by Yorkshire Water to increase capacity and improve water treatment in the Calder Valley area, the project consists of three main interconnected sections: A). A rapid gravity sand filter at Cooper Bridge, costing $15.2mil This will have sufficient capacity to accomodate the whole of the Upper Brighouse flow and undertakes a polishing operation to take out fine particles. It will also enable the water authority to meet the new EC Urban Water Treatment Directive which is due to come into effect in December 2000 and which introduces a significant tightening up of water discharge standards across Europe. B). A new approximately $28.8mil. inlet discharge works at Upper Brighouse will replace the existing facilities which are up to 90-years old. C). A Bio Pur activated filter plant at Colne Bridge which will cost $35.2mil. Sand filter testing started in June 1997 and the works are on target for completion in December 1998, despite the need for an increase in trade effluent capacity during construction which was triggered by new building construction in the Huddersfield area.
