Reconstruction following the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck the Abruzzo region of central Italy on April 6 is expected to cost at least € 12 billion (US$ 15.6 billion). Almost 300 people were killed in the disaster and an estimated 58000 were left homeless.rnThe damage wrought by the earthquake has raised questions as to whether building codes were followed. The chief prosecutor for L'Aquilla, Alfredo Rossini has been quoted by local media as saying, "Buildings that were supposed to be concrete, modern, anti-seismic ones and so on, have collapsed miserably."
