The Santiago, Chile underground rail network could be increased to as much as 200 km, according to Metro de Santiago de Chile president Raphael Bergoeing. Current expansion work will see the network grow from 103 km to 140 km by 2017. The current work is focussed on the extension of Lines 3 and 6. In addition to the construction investment, Mr Bergoeing said a further 240 carriages would be required for the expanded network, and a tender worth US$ 350 million would be put out for these in 2012.
