Komatsu has launched its intelligent machine control excavators in Europe. The PC210LCi-10, unveiled as a prototype at last year's Bauma exhibition, features a new machine control and guidance system that improves accuracy, efficiency and safety. Komatsu says its control and guidance system means the operator will no longer have to worry about digging too deep or damaging a target surface, improving efficiency, precision and safety on site. The system starts with a factory installed, fully integrated machine control system that includes stroke sensing hydraulic cylinders for the boom, arm and bucket, developed by Komatsu for precise, real-time bucket edge positioning. The Inertial Measuring Unit (IMU) gives precise machine orientation and determines machine angle from gyro and accelerometer data, while an on-board GNSS receiver is used to provide the real time position of the machine. This information is used to automatically prevent digging beyond the target depth on any given task.
