The African Development Bank (AfDB) has committed US$ 600 million to Power Africa, a five-year programme aimed at doubling access to power in Sub-Saharan Africa. Projects for this year include an energy development and access project in Ghana that includes plans for new photovoltaic power systems and an extension of the country's distribution network. Also in 2014, the AfDB said it would work on a variety of projects from energy access in Liberia to geothermal development in Kenya. The Islamic Development Bank has approved funding totalling US$ 705 million to support new development projects across the Muslim world. The finance package included US$ 224 million to support the upgrade and reconstruction of the Ujar-Zardab-Agjabadi road in central Azerbaijan, as well as US$ 220 million for the Assiut (El-Walidia) thermal power plant development in Egypt.
