Swiss-headquartered global technology company ABB recently announced a formal move into the construction arena. The move follows the publication of an ABB-commissioned survey of 1,900 construction businesses, with nine out of ten predicting a skills crisis by 2030.The company also reports that 81 % of respondents expect to be utilising robotic technology within the next ten years. The company, which has built robots for manufacturing and the automotive industry for years, sees construction as a prime market for its products - hardly surprising given the industry's negligible rate of productivity growth over the past 20 years.Andrea Cassoni is the managing director of the industry business line at ABB's Robotics and Discrete Automation division.
