A new and updated book on the manufacturing of ceramic tiles

Within the ceramic technology collection, of the Gruppo Editoriaie Faenza Editrice, a new book by Govanni Biffi has been published, with the title: Book for the production of ceramic tiles. It aims at addressing all those who wish to know something more about the production of ceramic tiles. A brief history of the tile is followed by a review of the various types of tile which are today available on the market, each accompanied by photographs. A chapter on the raw materials and the ceramic bodies, describes the various raw materials which are used to produce the different types of tile. And then, technical and scientific notes in the parts describing the chemical and physical characteristics of the ceramic bodies and in the description of the processing stages. A text which is easy to consult and which thanks to the many photographs in it contained, is pleasant to read and very useful, with precious notes on the most important bibliographic sources on the argument. The chapter dealing with the actual production stage, is very detailed and describes some of the most recent plant engineering innovations which have been introduced in the production lines. The chapter which will especially please the lovers of glazes, frits and engobes, is that which includes some 80 frit compositions (industrial), 20 engobes and 70 glaze compositions tested on an industrial level. A brief history of the testing method, the standardised tests and the production costs for the various types of tile.
