Report presented at the Workshop on the topic "Latest developments in tile decoration before, during and after the press" organised by Faenza Editrice, Sassuolo, Auditorium Confin-dustria Ceramica, 19 April, 2007 SMALTOCHIMICA has always based its work and research on the development of decorations in the ceramics industry. In its THIRTY YEAR history Smaltochimica has provided new products and work methods, always giving a decisive contribution to the development of print technologies that have gradually been put onto the market by plant engineers. In the 1970s it contributed with innovative mediums for decorating using flat and rotary silk-screen printing and later in the mid 1990s with the introduction, and consolidation in our sector, of rotogravure reproduction that uses silicone rollers that have been engraved with a laser. Currently roller decoration is the most widely used system throughout the world for the industrial production of tiles.
