Cement demand drives unloader technology

China may have cornered the world's manufacturing market in a number of sectors but it is yet to leave its stamp when it comes to manufacturing bulk handling equipment, and particularly mechanical ship unloaders. In fact, European and North American manufacturers believe it will be a long time before they feel pressure from cheaper Chinese manufacturers, which still suffer from a "technological gap". Henrik Vinther, project manager, marketing, for FL Smidth, says: "We don't have any competition from the Far East. Countries like China and India are making pneumatic unloaders, which are far smaller, easier to copy and require less technological know-how.
