Shipping consultant, Drewry, expressed concern regarding overcapacity and the resulting low rates and freight forwarders also worried about what the year would bring. A spokesman from one of the major freight forwarders was candid in his analysis of the direction in which break bulk is going. "The drop in oil prices and global economic growth impacting on the mining sector has resulted in some big projects being delayed and cancelled. Conversely, the supply of North American shale gas will likely continue to drive chemical plant expansion and projects there, including much of the planned project work in the US Gulf Coast and agricultural and other chemical plant projects in the interior," he said.
