In the highly competitive world of MPEG encoding, a tiny Israeli company has risen to challenge the giants in MPEG broadcast technology. Scopus Network Technologies was established in 1995 as a spin-off from Tadiran, Israel's largest electronic company at that time. Within Tadiran, the founders of Scopus and its core team were involved with R&D projects in the video compression and MPEG-2 fields for many years, even before the patents were protected and licences were granted under the MPEG-LA association. Over the years Scopus has become a recognised knowledge base in the MPEG-2 and DVB technologies, and the company's chief scientist, Dr. Peretz Meron, is a member of several international standardisation entities.
