Increasingly facilities have adopted the one-stop shop approach, while saying that, like any right thinking person, they dislike the term intensely. Having all elements of the post-production chain within the same building has become a strong bargaining tool and even those that already had the core disciplines for video - editing, compositing and grading - have been expanding to keep customers under the one roof and offer them attractive deals in these days of constricted budgets. Audio is the logical extension for facilities that have gone as far as they can on the vision side, although digital intermediate and restoration have enabled some to stick with what they know and not stumble into the mysterious realms of sound. While some audio post houses are sticking firmly with the one speciality, client demands or pure business expediency is creating a mirror image of what has been happening in the video sector for years.
