In recent times, a quick walk around the halls at the NAB or IBC exhibitions would suggest that the entire terrestrial broadcast world had completely converted to digital technologies. The well-known 'DVB-T, 'DVB-H', 'DAB', 'HDTV' and 'IBOC' digital acronyms are distinctly prominent, while analogue broadcast technologies are notable only by their low profile. Yet the fact is that over half the world remains reliant on legacy analogue terrestrial broadcasting technologies, and much of it seems set to stay that way for some time.
