Debates over various film and video formats for a range of televisual and theatrical applications are not new but, with the rapid advances in HD imaging technology, they have taken on a new twist and level of urgency. There are strong disagreements between the most fervent supporters of film and their counterparts in the HD camp but it's not always clear how well informed their arguments are. It was with this in mind that the British Society of Cinematographers staged its Film, Digital and HD Day at the National Film Theatre on 21 September.
