Dr Abe Peled, CEO at the now privately held NDS, speaking at the end of February, said he was enjoying his first flush of freedom from the daily pressures of the stock market. NDS is now 51% owned by private equity player Permira (and News Corp holds the remaining 49%). "But it won't last," he joked. "I am enjoying the freedom just at the moment, but maybe we have swapped one set of challenges for another! It has been a wonderful year, and pulling this deal off seems almost incredible now given the current climate. I am not sure the deal could be done today."
