Historically, operators needed to run ongoing software and hardware integration projects simply to keep up with consumer demand, let alone build a next generation platform capable of delivering the services that their subscribers will want in the longer term. In the case of A1 Telekom Austria, however, the upgrading process of its aonTV service was aimed at expanding its multimedia functionalities and simply involved a software upgrade of each of its set top boxes. This functionality can now be used by aonTV subscribers.
