The efficiencies in launching an MPEG-4 HD service

One of the leading direct-to-home (DTH) satellite providers serving the Middle East recently launched the first MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) HD video service in the region. While recognising the value of offering an HD service, the provider also realised the importance of maintaining its SD service and planned to upgrade its existing SD channel lineup from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4. By doing this, the satellite provider was able to handle the increased bandwidth required to simulcast an SD/HD service. To support this expanded channel offering, the provider needed a high-performance video encoding and processing solution that was flexible and efficient, as well as capable of ensuring a superior video quality.
